Douglas Electric Cooperative was organized in June of 1946 by rural residents of Douglas County to do a job no one else would do. "To bring electric service to everyone in Douglas County who wanted it, at the lowest cost consistent with sound business principles."
The first lines were energized in June of 1949 with 297 connected members. As of December 31, 2020, there were 612 members and 828 connected services.
